In the wake of the 2020 elections, the Republican Party started voicing a lot of concern about mail-in voting. They, justifiably, saw it as an avenue that permitted voter fraud.
Now, I’ve seen firsthand how such fraud can work, so they weren’t completely off-base with the concerns. In 2015, I documented one instance I encountered when I ran a weekly newspaper here in town. So yeah, it happens, though many actually argue it doesn’t happen to a large enough degree to impact anything.
Which is where the contention comes into play.
It became a major part of the Republican brand going into the midterms, even if it wasn’t actually a campaign issue in most races.
Yet with the GOP underperforming in the midterms, many are looking to step away from some of the issues that may well be hurting Republicans. One of those happens to be opposition to mail-in voting.
