California wants to mandate that a certain percentage of cars sold be electric vehicles. They’re not doing it today, mind you, but that’s still their plan.
The feds aren’t exactly mandating anything, but it’s clear they want to push something similar.
The problem with this concept, though, is that it’s kind of hard to dictate what consumers will want. Just because the government wants people to buy something doesn’t mean they will.
And as things stand right now, they aren’t.
