For ages, there have been those who think there should be some kind of reparations made to the descendants of slaves. They think the government should hand out cold, hard cash to those whose ancestors endured one of the great horrors of American history.
I actually understand why they would.
Especially considering all the other policies that were implemented after slavery ended ranging from segregation to redlining that have hurt black Americans significantly.
So, I get it. I don’t agree with it, mind you, mostly because you’re going to punish people who never owned slaves and give the fruits of that punishment to people who were never slaves, but I get where folks are coming from.
But there’s a very good reason why reparations aren’t going to happen.
