The misguided values of academia (Paid Subscriber Exclusive)
This will not be the first time I talk about academia, nor will it be the last. What happens on our college campuses matters, in part because so many of our sons and daughters spend time in those once-hallowed halls.
But anyone who has been paying attention knows good and well that academia isn’t all that it was once cracked up to be.
Yet the nonsense spouted by professors are often touted as being protected by the concept of academic freedom, the idea that academics need to be free to say what they feel they need to without fear of being punished.
It’s a one-way street, of course. Say something that goes against liberal orthodoxy and see how quickly academic freedom offers you no protection at all.
But it’s not just right-leaning professors worried about being able to speak out.
