Blazing Saddles is one of my favorite Mel Brooks movies of all time. It’s absolutely hysterical and I’d argue that it did more to combat racism than literally anything we’ve seen in the last decade.
Today, Blazing Saddles could never be made. At least, not quite as it was—Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank is basically an animated version of Blazing Saddles with a feudal Japan flavor, but it wasn’t remotely as good—in part because someone would get offended by the language.
But it seems an op-ed writer figured we didn’t really understand the movie.
