I’ve taken issue with the idea of “equity” in education, not because I don’t think there should be an effort to try and get people to the same level but because equity efforts all pretty much equate to bringing people down to the lowest level instead of bring people up to a higher one.
You’re never going to have true equality of outcome, which is what equity is, but I get the desire to level the playing field as much as possible.
In California, though, they changed how they approach math. Middle schoolers aren’t being taught algebra anymore, all in the name of equity, and it looks like they listened to the wrong snake oil salesperson when they did so.
