How the media has lost its power
The American media used to have a whole lot of power. In theory, they were supposed to be neutral arbiters of things, simply providing information for the American people to make up their minds. The reality was far more complicated than that, however.
Media outlets were relatively few and, at the time, were the only way to get ideas out to the public. At least, the only way to do it without very deep pockets that you could to make up the difference.
Yet that power doesn’t exist like it used to.
