High school students experience the evils of 'equity' (Paid Subscriber Exclusive)
Equality means that everyone has the same access to resources. Equity tries to stack the deck so that instead of equality of opportunity, you get equality of outcome.
The problem is that you’ll never have an equal outcome because people are so different. Further, it also means that you’re essentially screwing people over in order to benefit another group.
Now, proponents of equity would claim that’s not what’s happening. Truth be told, I get the arguments behind equity. I truly do.
But I can’t get past the fact that there’s no way to implement it that doesn’t involve mistreating others who have done nothing wrong. People like high school kids who could have benefitted from awards, but didn’t even know about them, all in the name of equity.
