The Washington Post uses the tagline, “Democracy Dies in Darkness.”
The sentiment is that shining a light on what those in power do and say is, ultimately, good for our republic because it lets the people know what they’re saying or doing.
At least, that’s how I’d take it if I just saw that phrase and had absolutely no other context.
The truth is, though, the Washington Post believes no such thing. They just want to decide where the darkness falls.
