And then they lost Carl Bernstein
When I was young, one of my favorite movies was All The President’s Men. I sat there, watching in awe as a couple of journalists took down the Nixon presidency. As a journalist, it was a movie I’d watch from time to time to remind myself of just why I do what I do.
I never took down a president, but I did take down a downtown city manager once, so that’s sort of the same thing.
Carl Bernstein, though, isn’t a character on a screen. He’s a real person who tends to be rather apologetic toward the left. His own politics are clear as day, which matters.
You see, I already talked about how the Democrats have lost Jake Tapper, but Carl Bernstein isn’t just unsupportive of Biden. No, he’s talking about a coverup over just how bad it’s been.
From my friend Matt Margolis at PJ Media:
Anonymous sources close to President Biden have reportedly witnessed "15, 20 occasions in the last year and a half" similar to what the country saw at last week's presidential debate, legendary journalist Carl Bernstein told Anderson Cooper on Monday night after Biden's brief address to the nation about the Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity.
"These are people, several of them who are very close to President Biden who loved him, have supported him, and among them are some people who would raise a lot of money for him. And they are adamant that what we saw the other night, the Joe Biden we saw, is not a one-off, that there have been 15, 20 occasions in the last year and a half when the president has appeared somewhat as he did in that horror show that we witnessed," Bernstein said. "And what's so significant is the people that this is coming from, and also how many people around the president are aware of such incidents, including some reporters incidentally who have witnessed some of them."
Bernstein continued, "But here we see tonight, that, as these people say, President Biden at his absolute best, and yet these people who have supported him, loved him, campaigned for him, [and] see him often, say that in the last six months particularly, there has been a marked incidence of cognitive decline and physical infirmity."
There’s more, but go and read the whole thing to help Matt out if nothing else.
Now, as for Bernstein’s comments, let’s remember that this is someone who tends to be rather lefty himself. Bernstein would probably prefer Biden in the White House for a second term, even if he’s essentially a vegetable for the entire time, than Trump. There’s no reason to believe he’s making this up just to undermine Biden.
No, this is probably legit, and it’s troubling.
These are people who see that the president really isn’t able to do the job. Regardless of where you stand on the man’s politics, the truth is that he’s just not able to do the job anymore, if he ever was.
We joked about him being an idiot when he was vice president, and that’s because he’s never seemed that bright, but this was before his mind started going like it has during this term.
And now we know that his staff sees it. They see it and they’re worried about it. What they’re not doing, though, is anything to address the problem. I’m not sure they could mind you, but I don’t see even the hint of an attempt to do so.
What’s more, they’re trying to help facilitate such a person serving a second term with access to the nuclear launch codes.
If that doesn’t scare the crap out of you, I don’t know what will.
Now, understand that I’m biased. I don’t like Biden and don’t support him. I want him out of office. As such, it’s easy for me to see this and start asking questions, saying he should be gone.
But Bernstein isn’t me. Neither are the legions of other Democrats who are now openly asking for the president to step aside. They think Vice President Kamala Harris is the better candidate, and to be fair, I think they’re right. I despite Harris and given my druthers, would prefer Biden in his prime over her, but she’s at least lucid, if annoying and vile.
The truth of the matter is that we’re all seeing this. Some are refusing to accept it, but they’re seeing it too.
Biden needs to go home and live out the rest of his days without the burden of supposedly running the nation. It’s time for him to step aside and let the nation move forward.
And, to be fair, as of this writing, it seems even Biden may have come to realize this.
