Academic Study Frames Whiteness As A "Parasitic-Like Condition."
What the hell is wrong with academia?
I ask this because every time I think I’ve seen the depths of their depravity, something new comes up and reframes pretty much everything.
I mean, after a speaker at Yale talked about her fantasies of shooting white people, I figured I’d seen it about as bad as it could get.
Well, I was wrong.
Over at the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association, they have a study recently published called “On Having Whiteness.”
Yeah, you can tell from the title that this is going to be a hoot. Yet, when you get deeper into it, you get even more.
Whiteness is a condition one first acquires and then one has—a malignant, parasitic-like condition to which “white” people have a particular susceptibility. The condition is foundational, generating characteristic ways of being in one’s body, in one’s mind, and in one’s world. Parasitic Whiteness renders its hosts’ appetites voracious, insatiable, and perverse. These deformed appetites particularly target nonwhite peoples. Once established, these appetites are nearly impossible to eliminate. Effective treatment consists of a combination of psychic and social-historical interventions. Such interventions can reasonably aim only to reshape Whiteness’s infiltrated appetites—to reduce their intensity, redistribute their aims, and occasionally turn those aims toward the work of reparation. When remembered and represented, the ravages wreaked by the chronic condition can function either as warning (“never again”) or as temptation (“great again”). Memorialization alone, therefore, is no guarantee against regression. There is not yet a permanent cure.
OK, that’s a lot of psycho-babble, sure, but the idea of arguing that “whiteness” is a “parasitic-like condition” is the kind of thing that would have you annihilated if you said it about any other race.
As they should.
Yet talking this way about white people is somehow acceptable? Really?
Never mind the absolute mindlessness of such an assertion, of course, but this wasn’t just written by academics but published in an academic journal that claims to have a rigorous peer review.
Plus, I particularly love to hear that they believe whiteness is a condition that may someday be cured. Yeah, that fills me with joy.
Unfortunately, we now live in a world where acceptance of this kind of thing is growing. It’s popping up everywhere and too few people outside of the right are calling it out.
See, when the right calls it out, academia can ignore it. They can pretend it doesn’t matter because, well, they don’t care what we have to say.
What we need is more people in the middle looking at this and screaming bloody murder. Frankly, they should be screaming.
Being white isn’t a condition and I, for one, don’t want a cure for it. I sure as hell resent the implication that whiteness—the state of being a white person—is something I should someday seek treatment for.
This kind of quackery wouldn’t be tolerated if it were directed toward any other group. We would justly lambast anyone who tried to claim blackness is a condition. We’d destroy anyone who talked about potentially curing blackness.
So why are people quiet?
Well, for one thing, most people are oblivious to the rot that surrounds them. Even most parents of college-age kids are unaware of what’s going on in academia. While there’s a lot of indoctrination going on, thankfully many students are rolling their eyes and calling it a day. They push through the class because it’s a requirement and regurgitate whatever they need to in order to pass the class.
They don’t bring it home afterward, thankfully.
But the rot is, indeed, deep. It’s everywhere and there’s no one in the academy to sit there and tell them to knock any of it off. There’s no counterpoint being heard to balance the stupidity.
So, what happens is the idiocy feeds off of itself and creates a spiral.
The end result? Being white is a “parasitical-like condition” for which “there is not yet a permanent cure.”
Tomorrow (as a premium post), I’ll be taking a look at how this kind of thing feeds into white supremacy and actually creates racists.
