In healthcare, the phrase “do no harm” is, at least in theory, at the center of what providers are supposed to do. You’re not supposed to actively cause harm to your patients. They might ignore your advice and harm themselves, but you’re not supposed to encourage this behavior.
And, if possible, try to prevent it.
But that philosophy, borrowed from the ancient Greeks, is apparently as dead as Hippocrates. Instead, providers at one prestigious medical school are being taught that trying to help their patients be healthier is bigotry.
